Cheque or postal order

You can pay for a licence by cheque or postal order if you’re paying the full fee of £169.50.

How to pay by cheque

Please write the following on the front of the cheque:

  • Make payable to TV Licensing
  • Make the amount the full fee of £169.50
  • Check that the amount in words and numbers match the full fee i.e. One Hundred and Sixty Nine Pounds and Fifty Pence
  • Use today’s date (not post-dated)
  • Please make sure the cheque is signed

Please write the following on the back of the cheque:

  • Your name and address
  • Your current TV Licence number (if you’re renewing your licence)

Please check all the details above are provided on the cheque, including the licence fee of £169.50.

Please send your cheque to

Your TV Licence will then be sent to you in the post within 10 working days. You’ll also be able to view your licence online by signing in with your licence number, the name on your licence and your postcode.

How to pay by postal order

You can buy a postal order from your local post office.

Please request the following information to be printed on the postal order:

  • The full fee amount £169.50
