I’ve moved or I no longer watch TV at my address. How do I cancel my licence?

You can cancel your licence if you no longer:

  • watch TV on all channels, like BBC, ITV, Channel 4, U&Dave and international channels
  • watch TV on pay TV services, like Sky, Virgin Media and EE TV
  • watch live TV on streaming services, like YouTube and Amazon Prime Video
  • use BBC iPlayer*

This includes recording and downloading. On any device.

How to move your licence

If you’re moving home within the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man, and still need a TV Licence, you can simply move your licence to your new address up to three months before you move. There’s no need to cancel it.

How to cancel your licence

If you’re not eligible for a refund, you can still cancel your licence.

  • If you pay by Direct Debit or all in one go, you can cancel your licence online now.
  • Once you’ve done this, make sure you cancel your Direct Debit with your bank, if this is how you pay.
  • If you pay with a TV Licensing payment card you will need to contact us.

How to request a refund

You can request a refund up to two weeks before you move. If we approve your refund, your licence will be cancelled automatically.
