Our TVL Pay smartphone app is free to download and allows TV Licensing payment card or Simple Payment Plan card customers to make payments towards their TV Licence conveniently and easily, wherever they are.
The app is only available to customers who pay using our TV Licensing payment card or Simple Payment Plan card (it is not currently available to TV Licensing savings card customers). Find out about other ways to pay for your TV Licence.

No, you don’t have to register to use TVL Pay. But registering means you’ll be able to store your TV Licensing or Simple Payment Plan card, and debit or credit card details to help you make payments more easily. You’ll also be able to see the last 10 payments you’ve made through the app.
Once you have downloaded the TVL Pay app and opened it up on your device, select ‘Register’ on the home screen.
Step 1 – linking your TV Licensing payment card or Simple Payment Plan card to the app
Enter your email address in the ‘Email address’ field.
Select ‘Next’ at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2 – confirming your account
You will receive an email containing a code, to confirm your account. If the email doesn’t arrive in your inbox, please check your junk folder. Input the code into the box marked, ‘Enter code’.
Select ‘Next’ at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3 – registering your TVL Pay account
Enter your First Name, Last Name and UK mobile number in the fields provided. Then create a password for your TVL Pay account in the ‘Password’ field.
Your password must contain 1 uppercase character, 1 lowercase character, 1 number, and be at least 10 characters in length. Please confirm your password in the ‘Confirm password’ box.
Tap ‘Finish’ at the bottom of the page.
Step 4 – after registering
Once your registration is successful, you will be asked if you want to add a bank card, such as a debit or credit card. You can either do this straightaway, or add it later.
You will also receive a text asking you to confirm your mobile number. The text message will contain a code. Please open the app on your device, go to ‘My preferences’ and enter the code to confirm. You will also have the option of requesting a new code, if you need one.
Your 19-digit card number 'C' is on your TV Licensing or Simple Payment Plan card. You can also use the TVL Pay app to scan the barcode on your letter from TV Licensing to sign up.
As it stands, the TVL Pay app is only suitable for TV Licensing card or Simple Payment Plan card customers. To check if you have a payment card, it will say Your Payment Card at the top of your card.
If you have a savings card, you will not be able to use the app. This is the current situation, but we are looking to expand this service in the future.
Please select the ‘Forgotten password’ option on the TVL Pay login screen. Enter your email address and we’ll explain the simple steps you need to follow to reset your password.
If you don't have the activation code you were sent during registration, you'll need to wait 48 hours, and start the registration again.
To complete the final step, please make sure your password is between 10 & 40 characters, has at least 1 uppercase character, 1 lowercase character, 1 number and no special characters.
You can change the language to Welsh or English on the 'Sign in' screen, or at the bottom of the My preferences section. Please note, SMS and emails are sent in English.
Once you've signed in, select ‘My TV Licensing cards’. You can either select ’Add card’ and enter your 19-digit card number, or select the camera in the top right to scan the barcode on your letter.
The TVL Pay app and our systems do not share this information with each other. We need your permission to save your card details for the app.
Once you've signed in, select the ‘My bank cards’ icon and press the + in the top right corner.
You'll need to enter your card type, card number, expiry date, the name on your card, card security code and add a 'nickname' for the card. This will help you to identify it.
Some banks charge 1p to authorise your bank card. This amount will appear on your bank statement but not your TV Licensing account. It will eventually be refunded to your bank account, but how long it will take depends on your bank.
Yes, you can. Go to ‘Pay’ and when you’ve selected the TV Licence account you want to make a payment for, select the option to use another card and enter the new details.
A payment confirmation will appear in your TVL Pay app once you’ve paid. You can view your app payments in ‘My app payments’ on the home screen.
You will receive an email confirmation during registration, and a SMS confirmation after registration. You will receive a password reset email if you’ve forgotten your password.
Once you have registered, you will only receive payment confirmation emails and SMS depending on your preferences set in the ‘My preferences’ section of the app.
The sender on both SMS and emails will be TVL Pay. For emails, the address will appear as noreply@paypoint.com.
No. There are no charges for receiving your receipt either by text message or email.
Once you've signed in, go to the ‘My preferences’ area of the app to switch off either SMS or email receipts. If you decide you want to receive them again, just use the switch to restart them. Please note, if you switch off SMS or email receipts within TVL Pay you may still receive other emails or text messages from TV Licensing.
If you would like to change the email address that is linked with your TVL Pay account, you will need to sign up again with the new email address.
Any payments made via the TVL Pay app will show on your bank statement as tvlicensing.co.uk.
The TVL Pay app allows you to view your last 10 transactions that you’ve made by debit or credit card via the app only. If you make a payment via a different method these will not show in the app. You will need to log in to our website or refer to your bank statements to view any other payments.
To view the previous payments made towards your TV Licence, go to tvl.co.uk/cashplans for TV Licensing cards or tvl.co.uk/spp for Simple Payment Plan cards. You will need your TV Licence number or customer number, last name and postcode to sign in. Payments made via the TVL Pay app or at a PayPoint store (at a post office in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man) will appear as PP.
If you are a TV Licensing card or Simple Payment Plan card customer and you use the TVL Pay app to make TV Licence payments via your mobile phone, your receipts and confirmation emails will be sent from noreply@paypoint.com and the sender’s name will show as TVL Pay.
