Telling us you don't need a TV Licence

No TV? Not watching TV live on any channel or service, or BBC iPlayer*? Empty property? You can let us know here by completing a No Licence Needed declaration.

Your TV Licence lets you enjoy a huge range of TV. It covers you for:

  • All TV channels, like BBC, ITV, Channel 4, U&Dave and international channels
  • Live TV on streaming services, like YouTube and Amazon Prime Video
  • Everything on BBC iPlayer..
  • Pay TV services, like Sky, Virgin Media and EE TV
  • Everything on BBC iPlayer..

This includes recording and downloading. On any device.

What if I already have a licence?

You will need to cancel your licence before you complete your No Licence Needed declaration.

What if the property is empty?

Please let us know your address is unoccupied. This will stop letters being sent to the address for up to six months.

You may want to let us know the property is empty for one of the following reasons:

  • You’re a landlord waiting for new tenants to move in.
  • You’ve bought a property which is empty whilst renovations take place.
  • You’re working abroad for a fixed period.
  • The licence holder has died and the property will be sold.
  • The property is empty and waiting to be sold.
What happens if I tell you I don't need a TV Licence?

We will send you confirmation of your No Licence Needed declaration.

If you tell us you don’t need a licence, we may confirm this with a visit to your address. This is because when we visit and make contact, we find one in ten people* that tell us they don't need a TV Licence actually do need one. If you are not licensed, you risk prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000** plus any legal costs and/or compensation you may be ordered to pay.

* As at April 2023
** The maximum fine is £2,000 in Guernsey.

What if I'm moving home and still don't need a licence?

If you made a No Licence Needed declaration at your old address and you’re moving home, please use our Contact us form to let us know if you still don't need a TV Licence.

Once you let us know you’ve moved, you won’t need to complete the declaration form.
